Molly wants to interview George and Sandra about their parenting styles. After briefly introducing herself, she asks if it would be okay to interview them for her research study about parenting. They say yes, so she starts recording the interview. Is what Molly did ok, not ok, or it depends? Explain your answer.
Our group doesn’t think what Molly did was acceptable, although it may depend on the situation. However, since Molly didn’t know George and Sandra prior to the interview, her approach was not okay. She should have described her research more in depth before going into the interview as well as letting them know ahead of time rather than interviewing on the spot, to give George and Sandra time to prepare. I think the main issue is that she started recording them for the interview without asking their permission beforehand.
