Flash-Write

What do you see as the benefits or drawbacks (rhetoricians sometimes call these “afordances” and “constraints”, respectively) of responding asynchronously (modality) with WordPress’s comment feature (platform)?  What strategies did you use in your responses to help you build relationships?

I think a benefit of responding asynchronously with WordPress’s comment feature is that all of the peer reviews and comments you receive on your writing are on the same page as your piece, and that makes it easy to refer back if you want to use them while editing. Some strategies that I used in my responses were using “I” and first-person language to give myself a presence and assure the writer that I was engaged in their piece. I also tried to let them know what I liked about their piece or that it was a good idea before I went on to suggest what they might add or edit. One of the drawbacks of posting responses via comments is being unable to synchronously ask questions about the reading and get responses from the writer.
